Introduction. In the context of global environmental challenges, energy security and national well-being, the issue of developing renewable energy sources (RES) is gaining priority for state development strategies. Ukraine, as a state with powerful natural resource potential, faces the challenges of energy transformation, which are determined by both foreign policy factors and internal socio-economic prerequisites.
Purpose. Substantiation of the prospects for the development of renewable energy as a key direction of the «green» vector of sustainable development of the national economy of Ukraine.
Methods. The research used a set of general scientific and special methods: methods of analysis and synthesis – for a theoretical understanding of the concept of sustainable development and the role of RES in its implementation; comparative analysis –for studying international experience in developing «green» energy and adapting it to Ukrainian realities; statistical method – for assessing the dynamics of the implementation of RES in Ukraine; the method of a systems approach – for considering renewable energy as a component of economic, environmental and social subsystems of sustainable development.
Results. The article reveals that the system of development of renewable energy sources has great potential for the modernization of the energy sector of Ukraine. It is determined that investments in this sector contribute not only to the development of modern technologies, but also to the integration of Ukraine into global energy and environmental initiatives. The potential of RES in 38 countries is studied in three groups according to the degree of development of the alternative energy sector. It is determined that Ukraine belongs to the group of countries with moderate development indicators, which makes it possible to draw a conclusion about the existing potential and prospects for the future increase in the volume of electricity produced by generating renewable sources.
Prospects.Renewable energy sources are essential for Ukraine’s development, ensuring energy security, improving the environmental situation and creating new opportunities for economic growth. They are not only a necessity, but also a strategic investment in the country’s future, contributing to reducing dependence on imported energy sources, increasing energy security and supporting national economic stability.
