Abstract

The article examines the current state, key trends and prospects for the development of cross-cultural management in Ukraine, which is especially relevant in the context of globalization, European integration and increased international interaction. The growing role of cross-cultural competencies and cultural intelligence (CQ) of employees in increasing the effectiveness of interaction in an international context is proven. The empirical basis of the study is an expert survey of representatives of business, academia and the public sector (n = 45) who are directly involved in cross-cultural interaction. A five-point Likert scale was used to evaluate the significance of cross-cultural competencies, key obstacles to effective intercultural interaction and the state of organizations’ investment in professional training of personnel. The results of the study showed a high level of evaluation by experts of the importance of cross-cultural competencies for Ukrainian managers and specialists, as well as their forecast of an increase in the need for these competencies in the near future. The language barrier and insufficient level of professional training were identified as significant obstacles to cross-cultural interaction. At the same time, it was found that investments of Ukrainian organizations in the development of cross-cultural competencies are mostly fragmentary. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that a systematic approach to the formation of cross-cultural competencies and cultural intelligence of Ukrainian managers and specialists who are directly involved in international interaction is necessary. This issue is relevant both for the organizations themselves and for the state in general, since cross-cultural training of specialists is one of the prerequisites for successful integration into the European and global economic space. In the future, it is worth expanding the scope of the study, taking into account the specifics of different spheres of activity, industries and regions of the country. It is important to investigate in more detail the mechanisms of effective cross-cultural interaction of SME representatives with foreign partners, clients, investors in the context of individual spheres of activity and, in general, across the country.
