Plagiarism Policy
The academic journal “Herald of Economics” considers for publication only original scholarly manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere.
The Editorial Board upholds the principles of academic integrity and treats plagiarism as a serious violation of publication ethics, inconsistent with widely accepted standards of professional conduct for authors, reviewers, editors, publishers, and readers.
This policy constitutes an essential component of the journal’s editorial practices and is consistent with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Manuscript Screening
All submitted manuscripts are subject to mandatory similarity checks using specialized software, including:
- StrikePlagiarism.com;
- plag.com.ua;
- other relevant detection tools where necessary.
Screening is conducted at the initial editorial evaluation stage.
Similarity reports are reviewed by the Editorial Board, taking into account the nature, scope, and sources of overlap, as well as the conventions of academic writing.
Criteria for Assessing Originality
Indicative thresholds are as follows:
- ≥ 85% originality — the manuscript may proceed to peer review;
- 70–84% — the manuscript is returned to the authors for revision;
- < 70% — the manuscript is rejected.
Additionally:
- similarity from a single source should not exceed 3%;
- the Editorial Board performs an expert assessment regardless of numerical indicators.
These quantitative thresholds are indicative and do not solely determine editorial decisions.
Self-Plagiarism
The journal accepts only original manuscripts that do not duplicate previously published work.
The following are acceptable:
- limited reuse of the author’s previously published results;
- proper citation of earlier publications.
Substantial reuse of text without appropriate referencing is considered a breach of publication ethics.
Procedures for Handling Plagiarism
If plagiarism is identified:
- before peer review — the manuscript is rejected without external review;
- during peer review — the manuscript is withdrawn from the review process;
- after publication — the journal may:
– publish a correction;
– issue a notice of misconduct;
– publish an expression of concern;
– retract the article.
The Editorial Office communicates with the authors to clarify the situation and may inform relevant institutions if necessary.
