Archiving and Open Access Policy

The journal follows an Open Access policy that ensures free, immediate, unrestricted, and permanent access to scholarly publications. This policy is aligned with the definition of open access established by the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

The editorial office supports the BOAI20 recommendations and the UNESCO Open Science Recommendations and actively works toward their implementation in its editorial practice.

Open access means that all articles published in the journal “Actual Issues of Mass Communication” are freely available for reading, downloading, and distribution immediately upon publication. Materials may be shared, printed, and disseminated through social networks or other platforms, and readers may reuse and adapt them, provided that proper citation of the journal and articles is ensured, under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Attribution (source citation)

Attribution requires indicating the author, the journal, the type of license, and full bibliographic information.

Example of attribution:

This is an open access article under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-
NonCommercial 4.0 License (http://www.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/), which
permits use and distribution in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited and
the use is non-commercial.

The journal ensures long-term digital preservation and open access to all published materials in accordance with the principles of open science and academic integrity. Modern tools for storage and dissemination of scientific information are applied for this purpose.

Repositories

Full-text access to all publications in real time is provided through the “Archives” section of the official journal website, where all issues and individual articles are available without time restrictions. For additional preservation and long-term archiving, electronic materials are deposited in the institutional repository of West Ukrainian National University (https://dspace.wunu.edu.ua/), the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, and are also indexed in the Index Copernicus system.

Software tools

The Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform used for publishing provides online access to journal content and supports integration with distributed archiving systems, including LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), where applicable.

Technical measures

All materials are stored in standardized digital formats ensuring accessibility, reproducibility, and proper citation in the future. Metadata and full texts are indexed in national and international scientometric databases. The journal also performs regular backups and monitors technological updates to prevent data loss or format incompatibility over time.

Accessibility guarantees

For long-term preservation, stable file formats such as PDF/A are used. Each publication is assigned a DOI, ensuring permanent and unique identification online. The journal adheres to OpenAIRE standards, which facilitate international indexing and integration of scholarly content. All articles included in specialized databases remain freely and permanently accessible.
