Theoretical foundations of onboarding as a management category and a modern personnel management tool in organization. The purpose of the article is to substantiate onboarding as a modern personnel management tool by clarifying its essence and place within the personnel management system, as well as by revealing its principles, functions, structural elements, and specific features of its implementation in different types of organizations. The analysis method was employed to examine scientific approaches to interpreting the essence of onboarding, its principles, functions, methods, and tools. The synthesis method was used to develop the author’s approach to considering onboarding as a management category and to construct a conceptual model of its internal structure. The methods of scientific abstraction, generalization, induction, and deduction were applied to formulate the author’s definition of onboarding, identify its structural elements, and develop the study conclusions. Systemic and structural-functional approaches were used to substantiate the relationships among the principles, functions, methods, tools, and outcomes of onboarding, as well as to develop the author’s system of key performance indicators for assessing the effectiveness of onboarding functions. The comparative analysis method was applied to investigate the practical implementation of onboarding in organizations of the entrepreneurial sector and the public sector. The modeling method was employed to develop a conceptual model of the internal structure of onboarding as a management category. Research results. The study substantiates the feasibility of considering onboarding as an independent management category and develops a conceptual model of its internal structure. The principles, functions, methods, and tools for the practical implementation of onboarding have been systematized. The specific features of onboarding implementation in organizations of the entrepreneurial sector and the public sector have been identified. The author’s system of key performance indicators for assessing the effectiveness of onboarding functions and an integrated indicator for evaluating overall onboarding effectiveness have been proposed. The study also demonstrates the logic of interaction among the structural elements of onboarding as a management category. Promising avenues for further theoretical and practical research into onboarding - viewed both as a management category and as a modern personnel management tool within organizations - include: refining the organizational-economic mechanism for managing onboarding; developing industry-specific models for the practical implementation of onboarding; and investigating the impact of digital technologies on enhancing the effectiveness of the onboarding process.
